Another one of those super helpful engineering videos from the 1930's.

Where can I find more of them?

1953 = 1930's... nailed it. Still cool.

Click the “watch on YouTube” button and look through the related videos.

Whops. The trucks they use look like they’re from the 40's or so.
Which means I’d still be wrong.
I should go to bed.

You’ve heard music from the 50's. That’s some 30's shit right there, music wise.

It's wrong. No mention of magic.

Hence why I mentioned 50's when pointing out the 30's music, bro.

Wait. The Mercedes mechanic demands magic? Is that a double negative?
*head explodes*
:)

Military/government typically default to classics. Wasn’t trying to insult you, I misunderstood your point.

To be fair, the military keeps it classic, it’s very 30's-40's.

I missed your point as well. Pleasure meeting you.

And you as well.

I love these videos. They make it so easy to understand.

I give this flamewar 0/10. ‘Tips hat’? Seriously? It’s like you guys aren’t even trying!

FYI, a fluid coupling is not the same as a torque converter.
![]() 03/28/2016 at 08:33 |

Is this really a torque converter or a fluid coupling? One has a fixed stator, but I forgotted

Weird, I always thought it was more like this graphic

Resiprocation Ding Alarm. I need one of those.

Thanks for this. Now I just need to understand how shifting in automatics works without physically changing gears, and an automatic transmission is no longer a complete mystery box of magic.

It’s a fluid coupling. I thought they were the same thing but apparently not. ¯\_()_/¯

A fixed stator is how it can multiply torque. Hence the STR of custom converters
